Nobody thinks it can happen to them and some people can go an entire lifetime without ever facing this sort of dire situation. Those people are lucky but they still have to be prepared. The following things are items that should be in every car that’s on the road. Everything can be easily stored in a backpack under a back seat or in the trunk. Don’t find excuses not to have them. Even if you never have to use them it’s good to be prepared for the worst.When your car breaks down it never happens in a convenient spot. The backpack can hold everything you need and store it away easily. It’s the best way to condense everything you should have in there.

Always have a full tank of gas. If you are going anywhere more than twenty minutes away it’s a good rule to have. You just never know what you will encounter along the way. A full tank of gas will avoid those situations of running low in desolate areas.

You should always have warm clothing stored in your vehicle. It doesn’t matter where you live, sometimes night weather can be cold and/or rainy. Staying warm is key when your vehicle fails you.

Flashlights with batteries along with candles and matches are good to store in the car. You never know how long you may be stranded in a broken down vehicle.

Just like at home, a first aid kit is a must have in any vehicle. Make sure that it’s filled with all of the essentials. If you buy a new one they usually come with everything you may need.

Depending on where you break down, you never know just how long you’ll be stranded. Food and water are a must if you are going to survive in the worst of circumstances. Energy bars are a good source for food and they don’t take up a lot of room.

A shovel, jack, spare tire, hammer, wrench and screwdriver are basic things that should be in every single vehicle on the road. You never know when you will need them. Other helpful items might be jumper cables and a knife.

A night time break down can be devastating. Especially if the weather is not cooperating. A few things to store in your car are gloves, a hat, a blanket and maybe a spare set of clothes. You just never know what situation you might find yourself in.

You’ll want to make sure you are safe while on the side of the road. Not everyone is going to stop to offer help so you’ll want to make sure they see you and don’t crash into you. Flares are good to have and a bright neon vest is good to have in case you have to walk along side the road at night.

Since you never really know just how long you’ll be there it’s good to have something to relax you and pass the time. Playing cards or a good book are good options to have. It will also keep your mind a bit less stressed until help arrives.
