Raising children in the 70’s and 80’s looks very different than today and it’s not just because of the fashion at that time. Mommy blogger [Ilana Wiles][1] decided to interview her own mom to discover the difference between today and yesteryear. What she discovered was that a lot of things that were commonplace 30 years ago may land someone behind bars for child endangerment. Everything from not wearing helmets when riding bicycles to feeding infants juice makes us wonder how we made it to adulthood in the first place. Perhaps the scariest of all was the absence of car seats. When Wiles asked her mom if she ever used car seats, the response was very casual, “I have no idea. Do you remember if you used a carseat?” Despite the lack of safety, a whole generation survived and thrived happily. We all love and reminisce over not our lack of bicycle helmets but the countless bike rides with friends and families and the songs sung on road trips sans secured seating. Even Wiles’ mom admits there were things she wished she had used back then that are available today like suction bowls and food catcher bibs. Let’s enjoy a trip down memory lane.
