Throughout history, cultures around the world have held beliefs around people born with albinism. The long-held views ranged; from the idea that these individuals posses magical, healing powers, it’s contagious, a curse, albinos are unintelligent, and albinos are evil. These dumb-founded ways of thinking have exposed the albino population to abuse, discrimination, violence, and even death. Albinism is a genetic condition that has a reduced amount of melanin pigment in the skin, eyes, and hair. According to the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation (NOAH), in the United States there is one person with albinism for every 18,000 to 20,000. In some parts of the world, the numbers are higher. Still, those born with this condition are often ridiculed and grow up believing they are less than beautiful. Yulia Taits wants to change that erroneous perception by showcasing their natural good looks through her series *Porcelain Beauty*.
