Dogs are more than just cuddly playful friends. For Leo, his dog Henry is his guardian angel. Outside of being the little boy’s best friend, Henry serves as a medical alarm when Leo is about to have a seizure. Leo had a brain aneurism when he was three. The prognosis was not encouraging as the youngster would have to endure a lifetime of strokes and seizures. While in the hospital, Leo received visits from volunteer dogs from an organization called [Love On 4 Paws][1]. The “canine therapists” gave Leo the boost he needed to make a quick recovery. When Leo’s mom, Yasmine saw the positive result the tail-wagging volunteers had on her son, she promised Leo his own companion. Henry was rescued from a shelter, where he was on a kill list. He has the unique ability to detect the onset of a seizure by picking up the special scent the human body emits. And here we thought we knew everything there is to know about our furry friends.
