Dan Cretu is a photographer and artist who views and interprets classical works different from the rest of us. It may be due to the fact that after graduating from university he spent the next four years painting and restoring old Orthodox churches throughout Romania. He used the same ancient techniques as the masters did. After that, he moved on to advertising and eco art. His latest project has taken him back to the classics but not in the most typical way. Rather, Cretu has mixed classical art and pop culture into one. Based in Bucharest, the artist says that the hi-tech world we are in was the basis for his latest pieces. “Technology is turning us into a society of self-obsessed narcissists. I combined that modern world with classical paintings,” says Cretu. You may see the original creations with a little humor from now on.
