Ai Weiwei is the world’s best known Chinese contemporary artist and activist, known just as broadly for his work as he is for his tendencies towards political insurrection. He’s a fascinating figure, and his new installation is appropriately mind-blowing. Located at Paris’ Le Bon Marché, the city’s oldest department store, the exhibition includes 20 illuminated silk and bamboo dragons. The show is called “Er Xi,” or “Child’s Play,” and takes its roots in the artists’ childhood, a time when Ai first learned the art of kite making. You can see photos from “Er Xi” below.
