Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Tweets “Trump Supporters For Ocasio-Cortez” Message. May 13, 2021

On Friday, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York tweeted that she had a surprising encounter with two people who were hanging a sign on the wall outside of her office. Ocasio-Cortez has said that the message on the sign has left her astounded.

In a tweet, Ocasio-Cortez wrote: “About an hour ago, I was walking out of my office for the day. There was a man what I believe was his teenage son hanging a small sign they made outside my office (we let people leave well wishes on our wall).” According to the congresswoman: “Astonishingly, his sign read: ‘Trump supporters for Ocasio-Cortez.’”

Ocasio-Cortez, who is an openly socialist lawmaker, has been consistently outspoken about President Donald Trump. She’s even gone so far as to say that she would support his impeachment.

According to Ocasio-Cortez, she asked the man how he could support her at the same time that he supported the president. In a recount of what happened, Ocasio-Cortez said: “‘With all respect sir, how do you… manage to support both of us at the same time?’”

Ocasio-Cortez said that the man replied to her question by saying that she is “one of the only ones” who has been “decisive” on the issue of climate change. In conclusion to her story, Ocasio-Cortez said: “All of this is to say don’t let any politician, no matter the party, lecture you about what is ‘possible’ or ‘electable.”

She continued by saying: “If you don’t understand this man’s sign – or don’t approach it with a desire to – then you do not understand this political moment. The same folks who said Trump was impossible in 2016 are the same ones lecturing on what’s “electable” in 2020. Don’t buy it. Vote your values.”

Ocasio-Cortez then took aim at the politicians who aren’t on the same page with her and her climate change agenda. In a tweet, she wrote: “The forces getting in the way of solving our climate crisis are politicians themselves + lobbyists.”

Ocasio-Cortez continued by saying: “It is the willingness to bend to corporate power – the same ones that use coal miners’ plights for a tax break, yet refuse to pay those same miner’s healthcare for black lung.”

The Green New Deal, which is Ocasio-Cortez’s $93 trillion plan to fight climate change, has failed to receive any “yes” votes from the Republicans or Democrats. The topic of the Green New Deal was brought up for a vote in the Senate in March of this year.
