Sometimes when a child has a flat area on their head they need to protect it. A corrective helmet is worn and over time it reshapes the skull so everything can be fixed. It is reported that one in ten children are born with this problem but if it is caught it can usually be straightened out over time. The helmets themselves are nothing to look at. They are usually brown leather with only the stitching available to be seen. Artist Paula Strawn came up with an idea to make them more attractive to kids that have to wear one. It’s not easy to get a kid to wear something like that but if you design it in a fashion that they like, they will gladly wear it all the time. Strawn proved that fact by painting several of these helmets to fit the personality of the child that was going to wear it. The results are pretty impressive and you can see by the following photos that they love wearing them. The one done up like a pilot’s helmet is awesome and the one that has the kid’s favorite teams on it is a nice touch. She really does some great work on them.
