Reuniting a mother with her child just so happens to be the kind of stories we all love to read about it. But this story isn’t your typical reunion. You see, when park rangers at the Amboseli National Park in Kenya were driving through the wilderness, they heard a desperate plea of help, but it was unlike any other call they’d ever heard before. It was almost like a trumpet going off, but the sound was so loud that it resonated through the park, this meant someone or something was likely in trouble and these park rangers were their only hope for survival.When they got there, they noticed that a baby elephant had somehow gotten stuck in a watering hole. Where was the mother you might ask? Well, she was around, but there was no way she could get her son out of there by herself.
However, nightfall was only minutes away, which would have made a rescue attempt more difficult in the dark. So, the rangers felt like they had no choice but to try and rescue the baby elephant on their own before it was too late to do anything for him.
She had walked out from a bush and when she saw the men, she charged at them and forced them to leave the baby behind. She thought she was protecting her child, but it made rescuing impossible until the Wildlife Trust team arrived.
They had a brief moment to try another rescue attempt before the mother returned. So, five men jumped into the water, and hoisted the baby to safety. Then, mommy dearest returned, let out a loud trumpet and raced towards the rescue team, but they got to safety just in time.
This story, however, had a happy ending and both mother and child were reunited. As far as the rescuers are concerned, their reward came in seeing the elephant family walking off together, which filled them with a profound sense of joy.
