Mayo Beach is one of the busiest, most beautiful beaches in St. Martin. It’s bright blue waters aren’t the only reason for its popularity – at Maho Beach, visitors can get up close and personal with incoming planes. As you can see in this video clip, beach-goers are positioned directly under the flight path of landing planes. The arriving aircrafts have to land so closely to the beach due to the incredibly short length of runway: It’s just about 7,150 feet. After watching this clip below, you might find yourself trying to plan a trip to Maho Beach, just to see this insanity in action. Then again, you might want to stay as far from these landing planes as humanly possible.
Flying frequently tends to make one either bitter or obsessed with aviation. I fall into the latter category. Visiting Maho Beach in Saint Marteen was always on my bucket list. It’s as crazy as it looks — planes landing just feet from a public beach. A video posted by Paul Luning (@pluning) on Feb 14, 2015 at 9:45am PST
