Being a black cat isn’t easy, and it’s not just because black cats are associated with evil, bad luck, and ominous fortunes in folklore. Because of that negative association, black cats (and black animals in general) are euthanized at higher rates in shelters. Fewer people want to adopt them, and many are given up. It’s a sad state of affairs, but hopefully, recognizing this holiday will change that. That’s right, August 17th is National Black Cat Appreciation day, and we’re here to celebrate all the beautiful, slightly-spooky-but-totally awesome black cats of the world. And if you’ve been looking for a rescue cat, today is your day? [Shelters][1] across the [country][2] are offering [specials][3] on [black cats][4] today, with the hopes of getting them adopted.
