Like thousands of kids across America, Tristan Jacobson recently set up a lemonade stand outside of his house. Only Tristan wasn’t trying to make money to buy a video game or some new toys: Instead, he was raising money for his own adoption. Tristan has lived with his legal guardian, Donnie Davis, since he was just three months old. She had to give custody back to his mother when Tristan was two-and-a-half, but his time with his bio-mom was short-lived. She began making destructive, harmful decisions for Tristan and her other child. Davis said that whenever she saw Tristan, his clothing was ripped and he was filthy. Knowing that he was in danger, Davis fought for custody to remove him from the situation. At age five, Tristan came home to live with Davis and has been there ever since. Davis became his legal guardian, and now they’re hoping to legally adopt him. The only trouble? The fees are upwards of $10,000.
