On May 31, 2016 the New York Fire Department will be swearing in a new firefighter. Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro will be making three-year-old Trucker Dukes an honorary firefighter. Trucker has been living in New York with his mom Shauna, receiving treatment for Stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare cancer of the nervous system. One day, firetrucks answered the call to a kitchen fire at the Ronald McDonald House, where Trucker and his mom are staying at. The title boy ran to greet Captain James Grismer. Their instant friendship and bond has given Trucker the opportunity to be part of the team. He gets to visit the fire station, ride the trucks, and celebrate his third birthday party with his new friends.
