Postpartum depression is real. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 11 to 20 per cent of women suffer from the symptoms which can vary from anxiety, uncontrollable crying, lack of sleep, change in eating habits, and mood swings, among others. In the past, these feelings were attributed with the “baby blues,” as something that passes with a couple of nights of good sleep. If let untreated, women sometimes face suicidal thoughts. Carlee Benear found yoga helped her get through depression after the birth of her first two sons. When her third child was born, a daughter named Marameylee, the Texas mom turned to yoga again when breastfeeding turned to be a challenge. “We were struggling, and I think a lot of moms do during those first weeks,” Benear told People magazine. Yoga not only helped with nursing, it has become something the mother-daughter duo do together. While Marameylee nurses, her mom is practising this ancient discipline.
