At first glance, the work of photographer Seb Janiak appears to be comprised of wonderfully saturated images of flowers, each one of them more intricate then the last. Look closer, though, and you’ll realize that his work is even more amazing than you could of imagined: Each one of the “flowers” is actually made of carefully positioned insect wings. The project is called “Mimesis,” and to create each image, Janiak searches for unique insect specimens in antique shops. Then, he photographs the insects and digitally manipulates the wings to create the illusion of these remarkable flowers. The concept is supposed to mimic the behavior that these insects have in the wild, all while creating something new and unusual for the eye to behold.
