Capybaras might seem exotic, but the truth is that they’re about as affectionate as your average family dog — and just like the family dog, they seem to get along with everyone. They look like giant hamsters and have long, shaggy coats that are basically begging to be pet, and that makes them a fun animal for humans and other animals to interact with. But earning their affection isn’t quite as easy as earning your dog’s: In fact, according to some experts, capybaras are more like cats in that they tend to withhold love and tenderness until they feel someone has earned their favor in more ways than one. Looking at these pictures though, it’s kind of hard to tell.
