At first glance, you may not think much about caterpillars, those tiny worm-like creatures we come across inching away across our porch or clinging to dear life on a tree branch. But there is so much we don’t know about these larvae and so much to appreciate as one man has found out. [Samuel Jaffe][1], a native of Eastern Massachusetts and an all-round nature lover grew up outdoors getting his hands dirty trying to learn about the local wildlife. In the last few years, he has directed his attention and devoted his passion to caterpillars and in that time, compiling an impressive body of work featured in *[The Caterpillar Lab][2]*. Jaffe’s photography gets really up close and personal with the butterflies-in-training and his work is truly profound. And the images he is able to snap really demonstrate the incredible diversity and beauty of these small animals. These are caterpillars he has found locally; imagine how much more he can discover if looks beyond his home state. It’s safe to say his work is unfinished.
