Cruise Ships Viewed From Above Reveals A Totally Different Perspective. April 1, 2023Leave a comment

Photographer Jeffrey Milstein’s “Cruise Ships” series casts new light on the way we look at pleasure voyages. Even those of us who have been on cruise ships before have never seen them like this. When viewed from above, the top decks appear to be what Milstein describes as “floating amusement park[s],” with features such as putting greens, running tracks, basketball courts, and pools. The project is an expansion of earlier ones he’s completed in the past, according to an interview with Slate. He previously captured shots of motorboats in New York from a bridge, but about a year and a half ago, he traveled to Florida’s Port Canaveral where millions of passengers depart for cruise vacations. In order to capture these photographs, he mounted a manual camera onto a gyroscope and flew 900 to 1,400 feet in the air by helicopter. Milstein sat by the right-front window, which was door-less for clearer views, but was still limited to two or three chances per hour to capture the perfect shot. Milstein’s steady hand and diligence paid off. See the impressive photos below:
