We often post about our adventures as solo travelers with captions about finding ourselves, with friends both new and old, or alongside our partners (remember the [#FollowMe][1] couple and the frenzy that followed?), but what about our families? Alex, the founder of a motivational project called Looking for Heroes, recently spent a month traveling the US with her retired mother. The two have always wanted to take a trip but “there was never the right time.” They went from New York to Los Angeles, with a few stops in between. They documented the trip with video footage and photos of themselves holding hands at memorable locations. According to her official website, Alex wanted to take action after her grandma passed away. She realized then that neither her or her mother would be around forever. She later titled the trip “The Time is Now.” Check it out below. You’ll feel inspired to plan your own trip. She began by photographing people that she knew but later approached strangers with some important questions. She asked what made them happy, what motivated them, and what their dreams were.

This young woman believes that “everybody is a hero in a sense.” One hero of hers is her mother, who she took on a month-long trip across the US. Here they are hiking the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.

“Your life is the biggest gift you have ever received and no one knows how much time you have on this earth. Don’t wait for the right time to come,” Alex wrote on her page. “To be who you want to be, to do the things you want to do, to say the things you want to say…do it now. The right time will never come until you make it the right time.”
