On his 54th birthday, Gary Andrews started an illustrated diary. As a former Disney animator, he rocked everything he doodled. But the married father-of-two had no idea just how badly he would need to rely on his drawings after an unforeseen tragedy took his wife three years later. While he was on a trip in Canada, his beloved wife, Joy, fell ill. Gary rushed back home to be with her, but there wasn’t much anyone could do. Sadly, Joy died from sepsis.
At first, Gary started writing and doodling in his diary as a way to cope with her sudden death. As of April 27, 2018, it had been half a year since she died, and yet, not a day goes by that he doesn’t think of her. In fact, in most of his illustrations, the spirit of his wife is always near him. In others, he draws his little girls coming to him to tell him how much they miss their mommy.
