Adventures are a great way to make life a little bit more exciting, especially if those adventures are outdoors. There are so many people that enjoy spending their time outside snorkeling, camping, kayaking, and of course, hiking. You may find it hard to believe, but humans aren’t the only creatures that enjoy a nice hike through the woods. Keep scrolling to see how this couple made a new friend while doing some hiking of their own. They were on their way to a very popular waterfall in the area when they noticed something on the trail. Something that looked a bit out of place in the open wilderness. “I made a joke to my wife that it was a bear,” recalled Scott.

The pup seemed to be happy, so the couple didn’t think they needed to worry about him. They decided to continue on their course, but that wouldn’t be the last time the saw the pup.

So he decided to go on the hike with them, acting as their leader. “He took the lead anywhere from a couple of feet, to way out in front, out of sight,” said Scott.

“He would sit and wait for us as we took photos and then continue on when we did,” explained Scott. Once they got to the waterfall, they decided to take a break, and get acquainted with their new friend/tour guide.

One side of the tag read, “Hi, I’m Smokey. I live nearby so please don’t take me. I like to follow hikers sometimes.” It looked like Smokey the dog had done this many times.

It read, “Don’t worry, I’ll go home when I get tired. My people love me a lot. Thanks for being nice!” The couple was lucky that Smokey had chosen them to guide them on their hike. After they stopped at the falls, all three of them trekked back together.

“He stayed in the lot until we were all changing near our cars and he calmly walked across the road and back into the neighborhood. At the corner, he gave out a quick bark at us then continued on back home, I assume,” said Scott.
