“Love is the only sane and satisfactory answer to the problem of human existence,” said Erich Fromm, a German psychologist who explained the importance of love through this statement. Sometimes an unexpected act of love and affection from a stranger can make a huge impact in our lives. But it’s not just the love of another human being that we long for, and a golden retriever in New York understands this very well and has become famous for hugging strangers. Her admirers call her the friendliest canine on Earth because she loves spreading joy and hugging strangers on the streets of New York.
Once they’ve spotted her on the street, passersby will often stop and pose for pictures with her. People have shared their lovey-dovey moment on Instagram in which the pooch can be seen on her hind legs, with her front paws clasped around them.
Cesar’s best friend got him this delightful golden retriever as a gift about six years ago, when she was just a puppy. About three years ago, she began holding hands with him, which eventually developed into hugging.
He continued, ‘Then in the spring of 2015 she started “hugging me” and since last winter she has been hugging other people more often.’
Cesar said, “We live in downtown Manhattan and walk all over Chelsea, West Village or Gramercy Park. So whenever she stops to hold hands or hug someone she breaks a bunch of hearts, because I can always hear people saying, ‘aww’, ‘adorable’ and ‘how cute’.”
He said, “She doesn’t need prompting. Hugging happens whenever she decides, but what I have noticed is that she likes to be seen. So when we are on a busy street, she decides to stop and hug. Then she looks around as if to say, ‘Hey look! I’m cute!’”
He added that, “I now know when she wants to hug other people as she leans on them. Then she sits next to them before sitting on her back legs to hug them.” He further said, “But I think she tries to bond first with that person by leaning on them.”
Cesar said, “Louboutina has been a local celebrity in downtown Manhattan for a while now, but we have also met plenty of other fans whose To Do List included meeting her when they visited New York. So at least once a month we’re meeting someone from out of town.”
He continued, “Especially with everything that is happening now, people say it’s so good to see this on the street. She’s bringing them joy and it’s very rewarding.”
