Bella Burton no longer relies on crutches or a wheelchair thanks to her Great Dane, George. The 11-year-old was born with Morquio Syndrome, a rare genetic condition affecting bone development, among other things. The fifth-grader met the 16-month-old pup at the Service Dog Project. It was love at first sight and the two have been inseparable ever since. George accompanies Bella everywhere. The best friends go to school together and enjoy activities like sledding, bicycling, as well as vacationing together. When Bella has to attend her medical appointments, he is there with her. Before her canine came into her life, she could barely walk; now she walks everywhere with the help of her companion, thanks to what appears to be silent encouragement. Every night, after a long day, George curls up besides his bestie to go to sleep. This Great Dane has given a little girl not just friendship but the freedom to be mobile.
