South African designer Porky Hefer’s latest designs of chairs look more like hungry animals rather than a cozy place to sit. The hanging sling chairs take on the shape of an orca, pelican, pufferfish, and even an alligator ready to take a huge bite. He wanted to use animals because the, “pieces get people to think about nature, and its fragility, and make them consider how to protect it, Based in Cape Town, Hefer relied on traditional stitching and weaving from his native country for this project. He worked with weaver master Ismael Bey, in order to revitalize the declining craft, “so these traditions don’t die out.” Hefer’s series *Monstera Deliciosa* was shown at Design Miami 2015.
