Subway grates that fill the sidewalk with gushes of air when the train rolls by are a common sight in New York City — but not subway grates with polar bears on them. Artist Joshua Allen Harris has created an inflatable plastic bag polar bear that inflates and deflates with the passing of the train below, and the images of his work have gone viral. According to Harris, the bear springing to life and then deflating in a few seconds is a commentary on global warming, the temporary nature of all life, and the quickness with which the world can change.
