There are certain images ingrained in our brains. We may not know who created them or the time period they are from but their popularity in pop culture has made them instantly recognizable. Digital artist Tony Futura has taken the iconic images and given them a new twist. Based in Berlin, Germany, Futura finds a photo of Albert Einstein playfully sticking his tongue out or Michelangelo’s *The Creation of Adam* at the Sistine Chapel, the perfect medium for his work. “Pop culture and art offer me the perfect way to play with assumptions and to change the perspective,” says Futura. Although the artist himself is not particularly fond of Instagram for its “superficial” content, this social media has served as both his inspiration and platform. Nonetheless, Futura admits his creations are open to interpretation but he hopes people recognize his themes are always about, “fun, love, tolerance, consumption, and not take themselves too seriously.”
