In many ways, Bubby Everson is like any other 8-year old boy. He loves spending time with his family, loves building forts in his room, and enjoys putting stickers all over the house. Unfortunately, Bubby’s day-to-day reality is quite different from other boys his age. Bubby was born with a rare form of Cytomegalovirus, or CMV. It’s a virus that is usually harmless, but in Bubby’s case, the outcome is much grimmer: His doctors say that he will eventually die from the virus. For now, Bubby uses cochlear implants, wears casts on both feet, and has also been diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, and epilepsy to name a few. Despite having to live with such a devastating diagnosis, Bubby remains positive, and will soon celebrate his ninth birthday.
