In frigid temperatures, water and moisture in the air can do some crazy things. When Ontario-based photographer Michael Davies got his friend Markus to throw a thermos of hot tea in -40°C weather, he saw just how dramatic it can be: The tea instantly froze into a circle of ice around his body. The image was captured in Canada’s High Arctic, a place that only get about 2 hours of sunshine in the winter. With a small window of opportunity, the photographer had to make sure to get the shot just right. The final snap was even more than he had hoped for — with the sun in a perfect location, the image was the perfect mixture of fire and ice. See more about how he did it below.
