An 81-year-old man discovered good samaritans are only one phone call away. Clarence Blackmon returned home from the hospital, hungry but with no food in his refrigerator or cupboards. Blackmon is suffering from prostrate cancer and doctors estimate he has less than a year to live. What made matters worse was that he was too weak to go to the grocery store. Desperate, he called 911.
The operator who took the call, Marilyn Hinson, was so moved by the veteran’s plight that she asked her supervisor for permission to visit Blackmon. Within the hour, Hinson and officers showed up at Blackmon’s house with groceries.
Now residents in Fayetteville, North California are making sure Blackmon never experiences hunger again. The community has sent dry goods and even home-cooked meals. Now, the elder has so much food he is asking for people to take the donations to the food bank or Salvation Army.
