Marty Burbank and his wife live a comfortable life: Marty is an attorney and Navy veteran, and his wife Seon is a professor at Vanguard University. They could have used their extra cash to buy the finer things, but instead, they chose to put it towards education: The future education of 26 kindergarten students, to be exact. The lucky kids at Rio Vista Elementary School in California had their educational futures guaranteed by the Burbanks, who pledged to fund two years at community college and two years at a state university of the student’s choice. This means that college is now a real possibility for a group of students who may not have had the chance to go — and for the Burbanks, providing that relief from financial burden was important. “I thought, let’s take that financial burden away,” Burbank said in an interview with CNN. “Maybe these kids will get more encouragement about going to college.”
