When President John F. Kennedy announced on May 25, 1961 that the United States would send a man to the moon and return him safely, all within a decade, he put NASA’s Apollo program into high gear. On July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first man to land on the lunar surface. British photographer, Chris Coupland used the space program’s photo archive to create a stunning short film titled “Apollo.” The still photographs were animated in Photoshop with Coupland adding audio from the original logs. The Apollo program completed a total of 11 spaceflights of which six had 12 astronauts walking on the moon. From 1969 until 1972, NASA’s space missions placed the United States at the forefront of technology and space exploration. Coupland hopes his film will push people to learn more about the history of space travel; we think he may just be inspiring the next generation of astronauts.
