In January 2010, 34-year-old mountaineer Luca Vuerich was swept away by an avalanche while climbing an icefall at Prisojinik, near the Kranjska Gora on the Italian-Slovenian border. Vuerich was rescued and air lifted to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. In Vuerich’s honor, his family and friends decided to build something really special. They constructed a small wooden cabin on top of the 8,000 foot mountain for climbers to use as a place to rest after the treacherous climb. It sits on top of 8,000 foot mountain on the edge of Foronon Buinz in Italy’s Julian Alps.

It was challenging to build, but 12 brave climbers were able to put it together in no time.

It took the helicopter 18 separate trips to deliver all the necessary equipment and materials.

It took them only a day to finish the entire project.

If you and your friends ever decide to climb this mountain, you’ll have a place to get some rest before you head back down.

The shape of the house is designed to prevent snow from building up on the structure.

It won’t cost you a thing.
