It’s hard not to admire the beauty of the peacock’s feathers: Incredibly detailed and in shades of blue, green, and teal, there’s a reason why this bird’s look is often recreated in fashion and art. However, have you ever seen a peacock’s feathers under a microscope before? Unsurprisingly, the feathers up-close-and-personal are just as much, if not more beautiful than viewing them from a few steps back. Taken by a photographer named Waldo Nell using an Olympus BX 53 microscope, the images make the feathers appear iridescent, textural, and otherworldly. See the microscopic images below.
