Smokers wanting to decrease how much they smoke or quit altogether have resorted to using vapes in the last couple of years. Users inhale vapourized liquid made up of water, nicotine, and vegetable or propylene glycerin for flavouring. By eliminating inhalation, many believe this is a safer option, thus decreasing the chances of smoking relating cancers. E-cigarettes were developed in 2003 and since its launch it has turned into a $6 billion industry, worldwide. Part of the appeal to vaping is the hundreds of flavours available like whiskey, dulce de leche, mint, cinnamon, and fruity ones. It is too early to tell if there are any side effects to vaping. Doctors recognize e-cigarette may be misleading as consumers erroneously believe vaping do not contain nicotine. The battery-powered device also has the presence of propylene glycol, the same chemical used to produce theatre smoke. This chemical has been known to cause respiratory infections and irritation to the eyes.”These products are now the most commonly used form of tobacco among youth in the United States, surpassing conventional tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, and hookahs,” said Murthy.
“For example, the health effects and potentially harmful doses of heated and aerosolized constituents of e-cigarette liquid — including solvents, flavourants, and toxicants — are not completely understood,” he explained.
“I’ve been vaping for about a year now and assure you I did not do anything I wasn’t supposed to,” he wrote on a Facebook post.
It broke part of the sink off.
“I was lucky and they’re was a huge amount of damage to the room in my house I was in as well,” Hall explains. “I know vapes help people quit smoking cigarettes and that’s amazing. I just want to bring to light this is possible that they can explode without warning.”
“I’ve lost at least 7 teeth, second degree burns to face and neck and have been pulling chunks of plastic, teeth and foreign objects from mouth, throat and lips,” he says.
Because he had been using the vape for a year, he “would have said ‘no way that’s possible.'” He points out prior to the explosion his vape had never overheated or done anything for him to be concerned.
The 30-year-old was treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
