Ever since Special Counsel Robert Mueller released his report, which concluded that there wasn’t any collusion with Russia, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters has been forced to tone down her demands for President Trump’s impeachment. Waters has finally admitted that Trump’s impeachment has “never been discussed” by the Democrats.

Waters, whose national image was boosted by her incessant calls for impeachment and her support for the Russia-collusion theory, made the statement on Monday, even though she had been quoted a few days earlier saying that Mueller’s report didn’t indicate “the end of anything.”

“I think we do nothing now but concentrate on getting the information, getting that report,” said Waters, in reference to Mueller’s conclusions, which were provided by the Attorney General William Barr. According to Politico, Waters said: “[Impeachment has] never been discussed as a strategy for this caucus. It’s only a few of us.”

According to MSNBC, Waters has said that she will continue to investigate the White House, and apparently, she has made no indication that she would stop talking about impeaching President Trump.

“This president has a way of trying to get into people’s heads and indoctrinate them. He’s going try to conclude that this report is proof that there is no collusion and you have a lot of his sycophants who will take the nod from him and they’ll say the same thing,” said Waters.

Waters continued by saying: “This is not the end of anything. Well, it is the end of the report and the investigation by Mueller, but those of us who share these committees with our oversight because there is so much that needs to be taken a look at this point. It is not the end of everything.”

Over the past two years, Waters, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, has made several claims about President Trump in an attempt to gain enough support to have him impeached. In 2017, while at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s conference, Waters said: “Here you have a president who I can tell you, I guarantee you, is in collusion with the Russians to undermine our democracy.”

There have been several Democrats who have expressed huge reservations about impeaching the president. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has explained that the entire process isn’t really worth the pursuit.

According to the Washington Post, Nancy Pelosi said: “I’m not for impeachment. Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country.” She added: “And he’s just not worth it.”

On the other side of the spectrum, there are a few Democrats, such as U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who are already working hard to begin investigations and hearings that would make room for them to impeach the president. In a letter sent from Tlaib to her colleagues on Monday, Tlaib asked them to back a resolution to start the impeachment process, calling President Trump “the most dangerous threat to our democracy.”
