Remember [Raju][1], the elephant that appeared to cry tears of joy after being rescued from terrible conditions in India? Raju is alive and well now, but what most people don’t know is that the same night Raju was rescued, another elephant was left behind. That elephant is named Mohan. [1]: http://www.lifebuzz.com/raju/
Mohan hasn’t had an easy life, either. He was torn from his mother as a calf and has spent the last 50 years of his life in captivity. His owner, Mr. Bhupendar Mishra, has abused Mohan, working him beyond his capacity and torturing him when he couldn’t perform. Recent court proceedings have led to the demand for Mohan’s release, but Mishra is digging his heels in and refusing to let him go. On the night that Raju was rescued, captors managed to smuggle Mohan away into the darkness before rescuers could get to him, too.
