John Bisbee only works with nails. With the 12-inch nails he welds and forges intricate pyramids, snakes and trees among other things. Bisbee admits he does not draw or sketch a draft of what his next project will look like. His mantra,“only nails, always different.” He discovered working with nails by chance while an art student. Frustrated after trying his hand at glass and ceramic, Bisbee was searching for a new object that would renews his passion in art. While searching for material in an abandoned house, he came across a bucket of nails rusted but shaped to the pail. The casual encounter has allowed him a successful 30-year career. The sculptor is an art professor at Bowdoin College in Maine where he resides. His team is made up of former students. The artist attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.
