In the midst of tragedy, there are stories of inexplicable survival. On April 25, 2015, Nepal was struck by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. The death toll as of Wednesday, April 29 is a devastating 5,057 with those numbers expected to increase significantly as the days go on. A four-month-old boy, Sonit Awal, was pulled from the rubble after the building he and his family lived in collapsed. His story is one of miraculous survival and a happy ending thanks to the tireless efforts of people who did their best to save his life. The Nepalese army worked tirelessly until midnight but still unable to reach the baby. The baby’s father, Shyam Awal’s hope was kept alive as he could hear his son’s cries. The next day, rescuers returned, and pulled little Sonit free from the rubble after being trapped for 22 hours.
