Most parents who are faced with the thought of having conjoined twins might see the situation as a tragedy. But this wasn’t the case. In fact, his parents only found out about their child’s condition a day before it was about to come into the world. But they didn’t care that the child was conjoined because from their perspective, it was a “gift from God”. Of course, you could totally understand why the parents and the shocked medical staff would think so. After all, the baby was born with two fully formed heads on one body. But then, things took a turn for the worse.The boy, which had no name, was born to parents Nasreen, 30, and Naseem Mohammad, 34, in India. But his parents, didn’t have a clue about the malformation until a day before he was born. But they were ready to accept him no matter what.
But according to Dr. Jaiprakash Narayan, an assistant professor of the pediatric medical department at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, in northern India said that every staff member wanted to take a look at this rare sight.
Unfortunately, the child’s existence was tragically short and it died just a few short hours of respiratory problems after being born at the SP Hospital in Yamunanagar, Haryana, India.
The developing embryo starts to split into what should become two identical twins, but stops before the separation is complete. Then, the partially separated egg develops into a conjoined fetus.
Death occurs because the shared organs aren’t able to keep both bodies from functioning correctly. So in about 40 percent of cases, mothers carrying conjoined twins give birth to babies that are already still born.
The newborn shared a single body and both heads were fitted with breathing tubes. But it’s unknown if the parents of this child knew that their baby would be born with conjoined deformities.
In fact, many of these births are believed to occur just once per 200,000 live births. Unfortunately, the survival rate is quite low. So most conjoined twins have about 5 to 25 percent chance of surviving. On average, those born don’t survive more than a day.
For some reason, experts claim that female conjoined twins have a far better survival rate than their male counterparts. Some actually get to grow up and lead happy and productive lives, and the includes being married and having a family of their own.
