When making the decision to bring a pet into your family, many people already have a specific dog breed in mind that they want. Instead of visiting a shelter, some people search for breeders of the specific dog breed they want. What people fail to realize is that thousands of dogs enter shelters everyday who need new homes and a family to take them in. Purchasing a brand new puppy may sound ideal but adopting a dog who has gone through nothing but challenges and hardships can be much more rewarding and impactful. New Jersey senate has just recently passed a bill that requires pet stores to sell only rescue animals. The bill will most likely make it more difficult for new pet stores to open but hopefully it will help bring down some of the cruel puppy mill breeders.
