Every Olympics the world learns about the power of the human spirit and its ability to push the body past perceived limitations. Every four years, strangers from all parts of the world come together for the love of their sport and country to be number one. Athletes train for years, making daily sacrifice for a chance at a medal and to make history. And yet, it is not always about winning gold but by displaying the true meaning of sportsmanship. During the 5,000 heat run in Rio, Nikki Hamblin from New Zealand fell, accidentally tripping Abbey D’Agostino of the United States. Confused, Hamblin sat on the floor wondering what had happened. That’s when D’Agostino put her hands on Hamblin’s shoulder telling her, “get up, get up! We have to finish! This is the Olympic Games. We have to finish this.” What followed next has made the world fall in love with the two Olympic athletes.
