Since war began in Syria in 2011, almost 4 million people have fled the country for safe haven. Leaving behind their homes, family and what they knew life to be is a heart-wrenching experience. The mass exodus has left Syrians living in refugee camps of neighboring countries. Gissur Simonarson, an activist from Oslo, Norway captured a photo of a man carrying his sleeping daughter, while trying to sell pens on the streets of Beirut, Lebanon. The desperation in the man’s face struck a chord with Simonarson who began to ask for help on social media to locate the seller with the hashtag #BuyPens. Within two days, the identity of the man was found. The man is Abdul, a Syrian refugee. His daughter is four-year-old Reem. He also has a nine-year-old son named Abdelillah. The search did not end there, thousands of people from all over the world began to [donate][1] to a page set up to help this family. The initial goal was $5,000.
