In the past, orca whales have been portrayed as bloodthirsty killers, despite not being a threat to humans. In actuality, the ‘blackfish’ is highly social with a highly developed vocabulary, passed down from generation to generation. One orca named Ben became stranded on the beach in New Zealand. A group of rescuers, including orca researcher Ingrid Visser, worked tirelessly to return the two ton whale back into the water. The young male was successfully reunited with his family. When Visser went out into the sea to ensure Ben was doing well, she was greeted by him and his entire pod. Watch as the intelligent animal greets his rescuer and says thanks in his own special way.
