This Yale Grad Gave Up Her $95k Job To Scoop Ice Cream On A Tropical Island. May 3, 2017

A high-paid journalist left the hustle and bustle of one island for a much more relaxed and warmer one. Noel Hancock was living the dream, working as a reporter in New York City making $95,000 a year but something was missing. The Yale graduate felt chained to her electronics: laptop, cellphone, iPad. Instead Hancock found herself looking at her computer screen stressed, wishing she was living in one of the islands pictured on her screen saver. The author of *[My Year with Eleanor][1]*, made the unconventional decision of leaving everything and move to an island she had never been to: St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Hancock not only moved but also left her career behind. Instead, she began working at an ice cream shop making $10/hour and now works as a bartender. The Texas native now has the luxury of waking up to sandy beaches, watching the sunset and enjoying a chilled out lifestyle with new found friends.
