Sekar wakes up at 4:00 A.M. every morning and cooks huge pots of rice to feed his flock of over 4,000 wild parakeets in Chennai, India. The birds are not his pets, but they fly to his roof to eat where Sekar has set wooden planks. Sekar, known as “Birdman,” began feeding his feathery friends 10 years ago after a tsunami struck the area. At the beginning, only two arrived to dine but that quickly changed to around 50, then hundreds, and now thousands. The camera technician loves the parakeets so much that he uses roughly 40% of his income to feed the birds twice a day.
