Peacocks have long been revered as one of the most beautiful creatures in the animal kingdom. In ancient Greece, the peacock symbolized immortality while in Persia it was seen as a guardian to royalty. The iridescent colors on this forest bird is exclusive to the males. In fact, scientists believe the hue and angle of the eyespots on the tails determine their success in attracting females to copulate. As stunning as the male peafowl is, it is when it spreads its wings during flight that is breathtaking. Red, blue, and gold are just some of the colors fanned out during the peacock’s mid-flight.
