Our world is truly a phenomenal place. At any given moment there is something absolutely breathtaking going on. Sometimes, if we’re lucky, there’s a person there that is able to capture it so the whole world can share in the beauty, as well. Photographers spend their entire lives searching for the perfect image. Searching far and wide for that perfect moment that they can capture on film. This photographer did just that. He was lucky enough to be in just the right place, at just the right time.He has spent the last few years taking trips to the northeast region in Spain. It was there that he was fortunate enough to capture an absolutely stunning event.
His love affair with photography started in 1981, when he got his first reflex camera. The affair continued when he began taking digital pictures in 2008! “I always have at least one camera on me whenever I leave the house,” said Biber.
What he didn’t realize at first, was what the birds were actually doing. The different forms they were taking on are called murmurations.
It’s believed that they do this when they see that a predator is after them. Regardless of the reason, Biber saw the beauty in them and wanted to get it on film.
“I picked a spot where I thought they would turn up and picked a matching foreground and backdrop in order to put them in scene,” Biber explained. “I eventually drove to the spot every day for four days in a row in order to capture them.”
“A number of people were watching this display but they were observing it from other spots and might not have seen what I captured,” said Biber. But even Biber wouldn’t see what he captured until he looked at the images at a later time.
Biber couldn’t believe what he was looking at. “I was so concentrated on taking pictures at the time that I hadn’t realized that the starlings had created a giant bird in the sky,” he stated.
“I realized that I had captured a unique snapshot, technically, sharp and in high quality,” said Biber. Biber knew what he had to do next.
Biber went up against 540 photographers from all over the world, with a total of 6,800 pictures to be judged! Needless to say, there was some pretty stiff competition!
Since then experts have asked to use his photos to prove the difference between real and doctored images. He was also approached by museums asking him to participate in exhibits! Even if he doesn’t do it, we sure do hope we’ll be seeing a lot more of his work!
