By now, you’ve might have heard about Gavel. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, his back story certainly will. He’s a German Shepherd that was formerly in training to become a police dog. However, he was fired and cut off from the training program due to being too friendly. His story went viral on the Internet and gained a ton of sympathy from strangers all around the world. We’re here today to inform you that Gavel does not need any of that sympathy because he has gotten an even better job that is perfect for his personality.Cute, isn’t he? Apparently he’s a little too cute (as if there was really such a thing). He was originally recruited for police work but wound up getting fired for being too friendly.
But that’s okay because his personality scored him an even better job in the world of politics.
You see, he’s more of a belly rubbing, cuddling with strangers type of dog. Nothing wrong with that.
A police statement said: “Gavel comes from a long line of pedigree . . . if the family bloodline is anything to go by, in 16 months Gavel will be tracking and catching criminals as a proud member of the Queensland Dog Squad!”
According to BBC, “He did not display the necessary aptitude for a life on the front line.”
His handlers decided to cut him from the 16-month training program in February because he was just too sociable for the force.
He was initially fostered as a puppy at this home before he was sent off to the academy.
Yes. He lived at the Queensland governor’s official home throughout the K-9’s training.
After the pup was let go from his police training, however, Jersey decided to make Gavel a permanent member of the family.
In February, Gavel received the highest recognition by becoming the Vice-Regal Dog.
Gavel has officially left the academy to work for the Government House in Queensland. His duties include greeting guests and tagging along on tour groups.
A February statement from the Queensland governor’s office wrote: “Gavel’s new full title is ‘Gavel VRD’ (‘Vice-Regal Dog), and he will now wear a specially-made Government House coat, emblazoned with the Governor’s Personal Standard, the St Edward’s Crown and the brolga, the official bird emblem of Queensland.”
In addition to welcoming visitors, he’ll also be attending official ceremonies! It’s obvious this dog has a very bright future ahead of him.
On certain occasions, the pup even sits in on briefings with the governor!
However, just like anyone starting a brand new job, he’s still trying to get the hang of things.
