Raccoon Got His Head Stuck In A Drain, Freeing Him Was A Team Effort. June 3, 2019

A little raccoon was set free after being stuck in a sewer grate thanks to the efforts of a Canadian rescue team. The people at Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Welland, Ontario got a call from a girl who spotted the raccoon. Who knows how many people might have seen the raccoon before her and continued on with their day. This girl’s phone call saved a life and it’s a great sign that there is some humanity in people. If it wasn’t for a girl who spotted the raccoon, who knows what may have happened to the poor thing.

She called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Welland, Ontario.

While its head was stuck in one of the square holes, its tiny legs were wiggling out of another square hole.

It was in distress while trying so desperately to escape its terrible situation.

The rescue footage showed their attempts to free the poor mammal using multiple tools.

They used crowbars, Jaws of Life and even a sledgehammer.

“Finally, it was just through sheer force we were able to push his head back the other way,” John Greer from the Welland SPCA told InsideEdition.

According to Greer, they were able to check if the raccoon had any major injuries (which it didn’t).

After his hospital visit, the SPCA officials sent him on his way through a grassy field.

However, it is unknown and unclear exactly how this raccoon got stuck in the grate’s square hole.

“Sometimes they fight so much he could have turned a certain way and suffocated himself.”

After all, animals are living beings too who deserve help whenever stuck in tough situations like these.

If there’s nothing that can be physically done on your end, call animal authorities immediately!
