Think of this project as your childhood Kinex on a whole new level: It’s called Bits and Pieces, and it’s the latest kinetic installation by artist Nils Volker. For the installation, Volker repurposed 108 toy Hoberman spheres and suspended them from a ceiling inside the NOME Gallery in Berlin. The spheres move via microcontroller motors, and Volker synchronized them to follow various rhythms and patterns. According to the artist, the movements are supposed to mimic living organisms — we just think it’s totally mesmerizing to watch.
